Anybody have one?

What would you recommend for a dude wanting to get one? I weigh around 250 so it can't be too small, but my lack of experience means I don't want some insane thing. Also no rockets. Just no.

I found a pretty solid Honda from like 78 that looks all right and is a killer price, running and driving, the only need for it is a coil setup for the electric start. Oh and the battery is kinda crap I guess, but it kicks over and drives fine.

Sounds like a good starter bike.. Just do some research on buying the parts.. Sometimes parts are hard to find or cost more then the bike ? What size of motorcycle.. Honda made reliable bikes back then?
Try looking for a Honda 185-s endero.. Half street half dirt. They have a 4 stroke engine that you can't kill? Plus they're a blast

That would be just fine to start out on remember buy cheaper for your first bike as your bound to drop/tip it over somehow. I currently don't have one at the moment but I do ride my dad's 2000 Harley Road King classic its a hoss. I love cruisers but fell in love with sport bikes when I rode my buddys the other day. Just find a bike you like and ride the piss out of it.

Check out honda CB's and yamaha XS's. Maybe a rebel 250? You can find those for pretty cheap.

Are you mechanically inclined at all? With an older bike you could end up spending a good chunk of time daydreaming about cruising while it's torn apart and you're throwing wrenches at it

I am yea, I could spend a lot on repairs. The issue is that my budget is TINY. Like 500 bucks. So it has to be old and used. At least until out SUV is paid off in 3.5 years.

I'm trying to find something like a Kawasaki 440 or something around that style/size.

find a cheap Yamaha XS 650 or whatever the hell they are. They're slow as balls and weight a metric shit ton but it's a good bike to learn on.

Dave I was in the same boat 2 years ago, never even road a bike, bought a 99 Harley 1200 . Since then ive road a few yamahas and Hondas. Wouldn't even think about buying one .The feel of a Harley you will never forget, even a Sportster. So buy a fuckn Harley ,you can thank me later. Seemed after I bought my Harley other Harley owners would let me ride theres and I got to ride a FXR , I felt like the frekin Terminator.
