Mountain Biking

So recently I got way into mountain biking. Always something new, I can ride in way more places than my bmx, and it's practical. I have the base specialized hardrock, but I'm amazed at the quality of a *scraping bottom* mtb. I eventually want a fully built up enduro bike, full suspension unless I can score a chromoly yardtail I like. Any reccomendations on v - brake pads? I'm in Nevada, most mountain ranges in the Union. And I'm constantly on my brakes. My stock promax ones are dead after six months. Any ones that'll last a long time but have a good linear stop? I don't want to lock up instantly.

Fuck off Brayden! Mtb is awesome dude, glad you're getting into it! I would recommend the kool-stops. Read some pretty good reviews, long lasting and good braking power.

Never really got into MTB or mountain biking very much. There aren't many places to do it around here and it seems really expensive. I'd rather just have one expensive hobby.

But I think MTB is really cool. Dudes on Red Bull jump off of big ass cliffs like it's nothing and keep flying down a hill. That's nuts!

That's different than just cruising through the woods though.

Bombing a singletrack setup is a good time.

Ya rampage and joyride are my favorite events. I had my mtb before I got my bmx, so now I have two different bikes lol. Mines a orbea sport 29. I only had like $600 for a bike and I got it. I might sell both bikes to get a better bike. I don't know for sure yet though.... I would want either a enduro, or downhill bike, someday!

I first rode MTBs before bmx. That was 2006.

I used to ride All-Mountain then eventually DH.

Never touched a bike with rim brakes.
Too unreliable on shitty weather.

And like T-rider, i will get an enduro MTB next year or a mini-DH bike.

I like cam zink, have you seen the huge 360 he did at 2014 rampage? That was so rad!! And I'm selling my bmx to get a ht trail bike. I decided that bmx is to hard on my body. Like almost every time I go out to ride, I get hurt or sprain something, f that!

500$ for a pair of v brakes? Holy shit.
You can get new hubs with disco brakes mounts, and disk brakes for that

No, $500 gets you a bike with high end v-brakes. Just showing how expensive mtbing is. $500 in bmx gets you full chromo and good parts.

|

12/27/2014 1:52 PM

Usually $500+ mtb will come with mecanical disk brakes..... mine was $550 and it had mechanicals.

What type is it? Stuff like shifting components are usually sacrificed for things like breaks and bars.

You are so right, average aftermarket forks are 500+, rockshock lyrics are fucking 700+.

2015 fox float 36 forks are like $1000, but they are the very best in mtb, only for trail/enduro bikes tho

I know, i saw in chainreactioncycles, lyrics for 1000, rockshocks rc boxxer for 1000, i just thought that those prices might be a mistake since a shitload of people have them in a mtb forum, and with a shitload i mean almost everybody there.

I will never touch a Fox fork, too much maintenance for my liking.
I'm more of a RockShox fanboy myself. Easy to maintain if ever needed.

A lot of suspension companies stepping up their game next year. DVO, X-Fusion, Marzocchi(hopefully).

My fork options for next year are X-Fusion Metric, RS Lyric or RS Boxxer WC/Team.

If someone gives me a good deal on a fox 36 van 180, i might get it. (coil spring for teh plushness)

I like rockshox too… I can't wait till I get a job and save money for a enduro/trail bike! What's your favorite wheel size?

I'd like to stay with 26 but the new "standard" is 27.5(650b).

most modern frames have dropout adapters to fit both wheel sizes.

Probably just get a 27.5, though i don't like it.

Yup...

That's why i'm compromising and getting a 650b since they're phasing out the 26.

I'd like to still be able to use my 26" wheels, but probably won't now...

My next bike is a 650b, I really love my lbs, they give discounts if you ask. They already know me. I think 26 is dying, I don't see 26 too much in stores.

All the big bike companies killed the 26.
