East to West with Van Homan by Keith Mulligan

For the past couple of years Van Homan has been doing a beginning-of-the-year trip to escape the brutal East Coast winter and get some riding in warmer weather and more favorable—and productive—conditions out west. Originally, Van was going to fly out to Cali for this one, but being a fan of the open road—and the liberties it allows, he scrapped the easy route plan last minute and decided to drive it. Last minute decision on my part as well—and much to the delight of Van, as he didn’t have to do the trip solo. I jumped on a red-eye to Philly, hopped in the truck with my bike, snowboard, and camera gear, and a kick-ass cross country road trip was underway.

The plan was to stop every day to hit spots, shoot photos, see friends, and keep it loose, but also keep it moving. We were graced by Mother Nature with unseasonably good weather for almost the entire trip and took advantage of it with a number of sessions at some great spots. The following photos span the week it took us to go coast-to-coast, East to West. 3,363 miles, and plenty of stoke along the way…
