Some how I stumbled across this and read some interesting comments. First I've been riding since 86. Used bars of all heights, widths, sweeps. I'm 5'9. I've also rode frames from 18.75 to 21 inch top tubes. Now I'm quite sure some of you have not ridden that many different set ups or have ridden long period. I can say that tall bars do not make tricks or riding easier for me. Especially wide 29 or 30 inch bars. Yeah I know, it's your prefeferce. However did you stop to think that your frame might be too long? Long frames make it hard to manual. Yeah a taller bar could help manuals or just put a spacer under your stem. Wider bars are not going to help bar spins period. I run 27 inch, 8.25 bars and my young friend who doesn't much runs 29 with 9 inch rise. He rode my bike and saw how much easier it was to throw the bar and manual my set up. Not saying my set up is the best or will work for you, but my set up took some research to get it right for me. I ride with a lot of dudes half my age who have been riding like 2 or 3 years. They came in to bmx as the brakeless big bar "trend is going on and ride what they the other newbies are riding. Cutting bars? They never heard of that. I said try it, you will see a better difference. But let me get back to the tall bar thing. I've here that some tall rider need a taller to fit them. Tall guy=tall bar. Back when tall bars were coming out. They were for tall guys. Today it's, it helps and it's my preference. I know to each his own. Just thought I'd add a little insight on this topic. Just be open minded to try something different and not being like everyone else. Ride on and be safe.
i love these bars i cut mine down 2" on each end making them 26" wide and there so much more reactive and are still hella balanced.
BTW im 5'7 and i ride a 21"tt frame...how can people hate on tall bars when they were around since the early 80's before most these hatin ass kids were born??? im not saying 10 inch rise bars have been around that long im just speaking in general about tall bars!!
hahah i like how many people hate on something different .....bigger bars wouldnt be a trend if it didnt feel better than tiny bars. people have different preferences so all the haters stfu
i just got these bars and im 5'7" and riding a 20.5 tt frame and i love these bars i have so much more control over the bike and it has made everything easier for me.. the only problem is with them being so wide i have to learn to push the bike farther forward to throw bar spins but other then that i love them
Im STOKED. for these bars, im getting them for christmas.. and im 6.0" and ive been trying to find big bars.. i think im gonn ahave alot of control... my 8.25 and 28 bars just feel to small now.. and i lean around and everything... like i said.. cant wait..
i use then with a 21tb mongoose shield. Standing next my hawk signatue fame with 8.25 rise bars its the same height, I have realy wide sholders and a lot of uper body strength so it works me plus i cut them down to 29 wide. I have more control over my bike now I used to have trouble hop manueling reverse hop bar spins, and nose manuels solved it. Its a balance set up. there not for every body. Look at my hookit.com account (calvin corey whitson muscle shoals alabama) to see the pics.
i'am 5'6 and they don't bather me. i like the rise and width of these bars. i can't bunny hop as good as i could with my other bars but i can ride smoother and do manuals and nose manuals a lot easier. i give these bars a 10 out of 10.
honestly i think these bars would be good for me but i am 6'2 and im only 13 they seem like sick bars and s&m is an awesome company and im definately getting them on the 15th
y is everyone so quick to hate because they dont want to follow a trend of bigger bars. unfortunately at this point hating on trends is the most common trend ive seen yet. stfu till u ride them dont talk shit cuz they look retarded and are pointless. i love these bars they may look a lil funny but i ride sooo much smoother with these bars compared to my old failure dumbars. the 10 rise is just more comfortable cuz it makes my posture better and 30 wide is not at all big and if it is cut them. im soo tired of reading pages of people hating. of course if ur 13 and can barely air out get some bars that are sized for u and not these cuz their cool. get them cuz they work for u
Ive rode some other dudes bike with these bars and they are awesome. Im 5'6 and it totaly changes the way you ride. I can understand little kids with these is retarded and little people who dont have broad enough shoulders for the 30' but the rise makes you more stood up on the bike. I loved the feel of them but I wouldnt ride these all the time, Id switch back and forth from my grand slams.
oh if anybody cares about the REAL weight, i have them in chrome and weighed them, they weigh 42oz. but since the chrome adds weight im guessing the regular ones weigh about 40oz
